Ueumdo was once a small island with a rich ecosystem, where mudflats and the sea sustained both nature and the people who lived alongside it. With land reclamation and ongoing development, the island became connected to the mainland, and the familiar landscape and way of life gradually began to disappear. As making a living from the sea became increasingly difficult, many residents left, and the natural environment slowly lost much of what it once was. Listening to the stories of those who lived there and walking through the traces that remain, I felt a need to remember and preserve what is quietly fading away. This work is a photographic record of the landscape that still endures, and of the memories and passage of time embedded within it.
